Avoid the constant seasonal battle by protecting your home against the harsh weather with the help of Build Rite LLC. With the installation of new soffits and fascias you will decrease your home maintenance tasks and need for repairs.

General Exterior Trim Design and Function

Your home’s exterior serves two general purposes. First and foremost is protecting you from nature’s elements. Your roof and siding functionally shield you from driving rain and scorching sun. The second, and nearly as important, purpose is giving aesthetic or visual appeal. Exterior trim details like the ones at Build Rite LLC tie your home’s form and function together.

There might seem like a lot of foreign-sounding terms like fascia and soffit but these exterior trim details do the task. Some are more exposed to strain and weather than others, but all are essential parts of the system. And some trim components have dual meanings and overlapping purposes. Let’s have a look the most common exterior trim pieces.

SOFFITS & FASCIA

Soffits run along the bottom of your roof overhang and connect to your fascia board, which is part of your roof structure. They not only provide ventilation to your attic, but they’re also aesthetically pleasing to the eye and protect your rafters from outdoor elements.

FASCIA

The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The fascia is fixed directly to the lower ends of the roof trusses and usually does all the work of supporting the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles.

This is no mean feat, especially when it is raining hard. In a downpour the roof of a 3-bed semi could be washing several gallons of water per second into its gutters. Here, at Build Rite LLC we’re making sure to have your back in any kind of climate that you might be located in.

SOFFIT

The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board. It is usually the board that you see most of from street level. The soffit can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area. Alternatively, ventilation can be provided over the top of the fascia board. Many people prefer the latter solution these days.
